Mission & Purpose
Departmental info: The department of chest medicine provides respiratory health care services including OPD services, admission services and diagnostic modalities for patients with respiratory disease. Current services: At present the department provides OPD services on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Diagnostic modalities like spirometry are available on all days. Level 1 polysomnography (Sleep study) facility is also available with the department and around 15 sleep studies are conducted every month. We perform diagnostic bronchoscopies once a week (Friday) and have reached an average number of around 20 procedures a month in a very short span of time. The patients requiring short stay admission are managed in observation ward and those requiring longer hospital stay are managed in the medical wards. The H.O.D chest medicine is the tuberculosis nodal officer for the medical college and in collaboration with DTO Baramulla we offer comprehensive tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment services. Apart from this we regularly organise and conduct CMEs on the various aspects of management of tuberculosis. Vision: Our vision is to start comprehensive respiratory care unit including respiratory intensive care unit at GMC Baramulla. We strive to add thoracoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound and therapeutic bronchoscopy to our diagnostic arsenal. We aim to start a postgraduate teaching program in our department. In collaboration with other departments of the hospital we aim to start procedures like image guided lung biopsy, Video assisted thoracoscopic surgeries. Mission: Improving the patient care remains our primary goal. We aim to develop an academic, patient friendly, and research oriented environment at our department so that both students and patients get the best out of it. We take keen interest in the research activities and want to contribute our share to the world literature. Goals: To provide training, and education about respiratory diseases to students enrolled at our institute and to start a postgraduate teaching course in our department. To provide state of art respiratory health care services available round the clock. To start state of art interventional pulmonology services and respiratory intensive care unit at our hospital.
